The district, magistrate, and bankruptcy judges of the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, as well as our local Fourth Circuit judges, will introduce their career and term law clerks for the 2023-2024 term. Our keynote speaker is Robert Barnes, the Washington Post reporter covering the Supreme Court. Please join us afterward for food and drink at a reception in memory of past FBA-NOVA president Torrey Armstrong.

Robert barnes
Robert Barnes has spent most of his career at The Washington Post, as a reporter and editor. He joined the paper to cover politics, and has served in various editing positions, including metropolitan editor and national political editor. He has covered the Supreme Court since November 2006, with a brief break to cover the conclusion of the 2008 presidential campaign. He covered the Supreme Court nominations of Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh. He gave up law school plans for a life in newspapers after taking a journalism class at the University of Florida. It did not occur to him, as apparently it did to others, that he could do both.
